Building Hours

8:30am — 4:30pm, Monday — Friday. The office is closed on weekends and County holidays.

The Civil Section will be closed on the following County holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr’s Birthday, Lincoln’s Birthday, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving (Thursday and Friday), and Christmas Day. 

We will be open on Cesar Chavez Day and Columbus Day (both are Court holidays, but not County holidays).

Parking

There is no public parking permitted around the courthouse. Public parking is available at the County Garage on Jackson Street between 12th and 13th Streets, and at the Oakland Museum on Oak Street.

History

The building constructed in 1934 resides in the Lake Merritt neighborhood and originally housed the Alameda County Superior Court system. Thurgood Marshall was one of the judges at the time, but the courthouse was named after Rene C. Davidson, a longtime clerk-recorder. His name was placed on the County Courthouse after her death.
